Simone Biles is usually the one being photographed, but on December 28, she stepped into a very different role. Instead of cheering from the stands or following her normal game-day routine, she was on the sidelines with a camera in her hands.
As part of the
NFL’s celebrity photographer series, Simone Biles was given media credentials, a press vest, and a Sony camera to shoot the game between the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers. Later, behind-the-scenes clips showed how seriously she took the job and how much fun she had doing it.
Simone Biles tries NFL photography and makes one simple request
Biles shared a video from the game, smiling as she introduced herself as a “photographer” for the day. Fans watched her adjust the camera, test the zoom, and work on her angles. She even took photos of her husband, Jonathan Owens, joking that “the lighting is bad.” Owens tried to help, but it was clear Biles felt comfortable figuring things out on her own.
At one point, she laughed and made a request. “If y’all post anything, give me credits.” Professional photographers nearby complimented her effort and mentioned how “tough” it can be to shoot live NFL action. Biles kept clicking, determined to capture the moment.
She also joked about staying out of harm’s way on the field. “I like to stay in a safe zone because I know these men would crush me,” she said.
The night had a few fun surprises too. Biles ran into actor Simu Liu and chatted briefly. “I’ve seen a lot of work,” she said before asking, “So who are you rooting for today?” Liu replied, “I don’t know; I mean, the Bears, obviously.”
Before kickoff, Biles followed her usual routine, kissing Owens and wishing him luck. The game ended in a close 42-38 loss for Chicago, but the result did not take away from her experience.
Biles’ photography moment is just one part of a busy and curious chapter in her life. After winning four medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, she has been trying new things. She recently started horseback riding near her Texas home and also gave ice skating a try. After her first skating lesson, she shared her honest review. “I feel better than I thought I would feel,” she said. “My lesson, I would say, is a 7 out of 10. That was pretty good.” She even joked about the future, saying, “2028…figure skating?”
