Two rookie quarterbacks made NFL history by attempting 196 combined passes without throwing a touchdown

In the 2024 NFL Draft, six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks. Through two weeks of the season, none of these quarterbacks, including three who started in Week 1, have thrown a touchdown pass. The much-hyped 2024 draft class included Caleb Williams (Bears, No. 1), Jayden Daniels (Commanders, No. 2), Drake Maye (Patriots, No. 3), Michael Penix (Falcons, No. 8), J.J. McCarthy (Vikings, No. 10), and Bo Nix (Broncos, No. 12). Of these quarterbacks, only Williams and Daniels have played, and McCarthy's season ended due to a preseason knee injury.Williams has been sacked nine times (tied for most in the NFL with Minshew), struggling behind the Bears' offensive line. He has thrown for 267 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. Williams has faced pressure on 43.2% of his dropbacks (third-highest), completing only 30.4% of those passes with a 21.8 passer rating under pressure. Only three No. 1 overall QBs have failed to throw a touchdown pass in their first three games (Bradshaw, Vick, Smith).Daniels has the best numbers, throwing for 410 pass yards with zero interceptions and rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns. According to records dating back to 1970, the Commanders QB is the first first-round rookie quarterback to have 500-plus total yards and no turnovers in his first two career starts.Nix has struggled with turnovers, throwing four interceptions in two games, tied for the most in the league. He has completed 59.7 percent of 77 attempts for 384 yards. Nix's 0-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio is the worst in the NFL. Similar to Daniels, Nix has found success on the ground, rushing for a touchdown and 60 yards.It's too early to make definitive statements about the future of any of the 2024 quarterbacks, whether they've participated in the record 196 pass attempts or watched from the sideline. However, perhaps one of them will break the streak of no touchdown passes in Week 3.
