“There was always something eerie”: Travis Kelce sounds alarm on what went wrong for the Eagles
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce offered a blunt assessment of what went wrong for the Philadelphia Eagles during their disappointing season, calling the entire year “eerie” and suggesting that something fundamental was missing from the start.
Speaking on the New Heights podcast alongside his brother Jason Kelce, Kelce shared his honest take on why the Eagles failed to live up to expectations after entering the season as defending Super Bowl champions.
Kelce explained that elite teams usually know early when something is not clicking. From his perspective, the Eagles never truly found their rhythm.
“There was always something eerie about what was going on over there this year,” Kelce said. He pointed out that the energy and togetherness that defined Philadelphia’s Super Bowl run the previous season simply was not there this time.
According to Kelce, championship teams feed off shared emotion, players celebrating together, running downfield to hype each other up, and playing with visible joy. That spark, he said, felt absent for long stretches of the Eagles’ campaign.
He drew a clear comparison between this season and last year, when the Eagles looked unified and fearless. He specifically referenced the excitement and momentum created by stars like Saquon Barkley, noting how the team previously thrived on collective energy rather than individual moments.
This season, however, Philadelphia often looked flat even in wins. While the Eagles still managed to secure the NFC East title, Kelce suggested that results alone masked deeper issues.
“When it’s not clicking, you’ve got to find a way to get over that hump,” he said, adding that the Eagles never fully did.
The warning signs became impossible to ignore in the postseason. Philadelphia was eliminated in the Wild Card round by the San Francisco 49ers, a loss that ended their title defense far earlier than expected.
Soon after, the Eagles made a key change by moving on from offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. Head coach Nick Sirianni publicly acknowledged that adjustments were needed, signaling a reset after an underwhelming year.
Kelce’s comments were not meant as criticism for criticism’s sake. Instead, they served as a reminder of how thin the margin is at the top of the NFL. Talent alone is not enough. Chemistry, trust, and shared belief often matter just as much.
As Philadelphia looks ahead to next season, Kelce’s words may linger as a warning about how quickly things can unravel when the spark fades.
