Record Breaking Viewership of NFLTrade Rumors Heat Up
Speculation is starting to build regarding the fact that perhaps Fields could be the starter of the future for Pittsburgh; thus, those discussions about trading Wilson have started to pick up. The Miami Dolphins team has also expressed interest in trying to trade for Wilson. ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested the Dolphins would contact the Steelers for Wilson if they lost starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a concussion. Recently speaking on Pat McAfee Show, Schefter said,
"I would call Pittsburgh and ask, 'What would you want for Russell Wilson?'"State of Dolphins at Present
But the Rich Eisen Show on NFL Network has insider Tom Pelissero saying nothing formal was relayed by the two clubs. So far, it doesn't seem like the Dolphins have changed any calls on their starting quarterback, Tyler "Snoop" Huntley. Tagovailoa and reserve quarterback Skylar Thompson are out, making Huntley, signed this week from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, a starter.
Optimism in Miami
Despite the quarterback issues that haunt them, the Dolphins are still said to be hopeful about Tagovailoa's possible return this season. That might be aiding their final decision on not trading for a quarterback today.
Contract Issues with Wilson
Wilson's contract also has a no-trade clause, which now makes any trade more intricate. Furthermore, while Wilson is said to be less enthusiastic about sitting and watching Fields start than being the man himself, and though Pittsburgh hasn't closed its mind to naming Fields the long-term starter, competition remains wide open for him once Wilson returns.
Trade considerations for Steelers
By all accounts, they'd not trade Wilson without getting significant value back, as the organization likes having two solid quarterbacks to help offset the risks of injuries. So while the Steelers-Dolphins trade gets the buzz, it seems more like a pipe dream at this juncture.
