NFL player Kris Boyd health update: Jets cornerback shot in Manhattan and remains in critical care after sudden street attack

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, age 29, is fighting for his life after he was shot in the stomach early Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan. Police said the shooting happened a little after 2 a.m. on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. This area is full of late-night food places and many people walk there at night. Officers found a man hurt on the street and rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.

The NYPD told reporters they are still looking for the gunman. Sources told New York Post and CBS New York that Kris Boyd was the person shot during a loud argument that suddenly turned violent. The New York Post also reported that two shots were fired outside Sei Less, a high-end Asian fusion restaurant that many famous people visit. The gunman ran away in a dark BMW SUV, and another silver Mercedes-Maybach was also seen speeding away on camera.

What happened to Kris Boyd and what police know right now

Police say people near the restaurant saw a heated fight before the shooting. But many witnesses are not talking, which is making the case slow. The New York Post said law-enforcement sources believe two shots were fired. Officers found a luxury Rhino GX truck near the scene and blocked the road while picking up shell casings.

The Jets said in a short note, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”



Kris Boyd was drifting in and out of consciousness when help arrived, according to reports from CBS New York and the New York Post. Doctors are giving him full care as police check more video from cameras around the block. No arrests have been made.

Kris Boyd joined the Jets in March 2025 but has not played this season because he is on injured reserve. He was a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before coming to New York.

Kris Boyd has spoken in the past about losing his father and grandmother when he was young. He once told reporters during his Texas college days, “I appreciate all the little things,” sharing how his hard past shaped him.

Police are still searching for the gunman. Detectives are talking to more people and checking all the videos. The NFL world is waiting for updates and hoping Kris Boyd recovers soon.
