Kam Curl contract: Rams safety lands 3-year deal worth up to $39 million

The Los Angeles Rams have signed safety Kam Curl to a new deal, which means they will keep one of their best defensive players for the 2026 season. Reports say that Curl has signed a three-year agreement worth $36 million. The contract could be worth up to $39 million if he meets certain conditions.

Originally drafted by the Washington Commanders in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Curl spent the first four seasons of his career in Washington before signing with Los Angeles. His consistent performances over the past two seasons helped establish him as one of the team’s most reliable defensive players.

Kam Curl signs new deal

The new contract represents a significant pay raise for the 26-year-old safety. Curl previously signed a two-year deal worth around $8.75 million with the Rams in 2024. Under the new agreement, he will now earn roughly $12 million per season.



His contributions extended into the postseason as well. During the divisional round of the playoffs, Curl delivered a crucial overtime interception against quarterback Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears. The turnover set up the game-winning field goal that helped the Rams advance deeper into the playoffs.

Across his career, Curl has appeared in more than 90 regular-season games, recording five interceptions, eight sacks, four forced fumbles and multiple pass breakups. His versatility and ability to contribute both in coverage and near the line of scrimmage have made him a valuable asset in the Rams’ defensive scheme.

What does this mean for the Rams

The Rams' decision to extend Curl shows that they value consistency and growth in their secondary. The team was worried about the defensive backfield in 2025, especially at cornerback.



In response, Los Angeles has taken aggressive steps this offseason. In addition to re-signing Curl, the Rams recently completed a trade to acquire All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs. The move required the Rams to part with the No. 29 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, highlighting how serious the franchise is about strengthening its defense.

By locking up Curl and adding McDuffie, the Rams are hoping to create a more reliable and dynamic secondary heading into the new season. The team is also expected to evaluate several other defensive back options, with multiple players in the secondary approaching free agency.
