Former Super Bowl champion questions integrity of Bills vs Broncos as controversial calls dominate AFC Divisional Round outcome

The Denver Broncos are heading to the AFC Championship Game, but their dramatic overtime win over the Buffalo Bills sparked a lot of criticism and backlash. Denver’s 33–30 victory on Saturday night delivered a highly electrifying game, with a finish that left fans divided. While the Broncos celebrated their first trip to the conference title game in a decade, much of the conversation afterward centered on officiating decisions that influenced the outcome.

Former Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy added fuel to the fire, publicly questioning whether the biggest moments and officiating decisions of the game were handled fairly. Allen, who has been the reigning MVP, also had a rough edge to his night, committing four turnovers that ultimately kept the door open for Denver. Despite those mistakes, Buffalo still forced overtime and appeared poised to escape with a road win but ultimately lost.

Late officiating decisions spark outrage and renewed debate

Josh Allen and Bo Nix each threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns, delivering one of the most entertaining quarterback duels of the postseason. The tone of the game changed during the closing moments of regulation and overtime, when several flags extended Denver’s drives. One such ‘no call’ on the pass interference involving Riley Moss and Brandin Cooks during Buffalo’s final regulation drive drew immediate criticism.


With the score tied at 30, Bo Nix targeted Courtland Sutton on the left side. The pass fell incomplete, yet a flag for pass interference was thrown on Taron Johnson. Many felt the contact was minimal, but the call proved costly. To make matters worse for Buffalo, the same play also included a roughing the passer penalty, compounding the setback.

Two plays later, Tre’Davious White was flagged while covering Marvin Mims Jr. The penalty moved the ball deep into Buffalo territory, setting up Will Lutz’s game-winning 28-yard field goal. Former running back LeSean McCoy summed up the frustration felt by many viewers, posting online on X, “The guys in the black n white always kill the GREAT GAMES SMH."

Denver now stands one win from the Super Bowl and will host the winner of the Texans-Patriots matchup. Still, the debate surrounding this game may linger longer than the celebration. For the Bills, it was another playoff heartbreak that came with a lot of promise. It is especially upsetting for Allen, who delivered more than what was asked of him throughout the season.
