Russell Wilson, star NFL quarterback, has once again shown his compassionate side—not on the football field, but in a life-changing moment off it. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback, together with his wife, Grammy-winning singer Ciara, played a pivotal role in inspiring a young leukemia patient to continue fighting for his life when all hope seemed lost.

How Russell Wilson’s personal story helped save a teenager’s life

During an appearance at Power 106 Los Angeles, Ciara revealed how her husband helped Milton Wright, a 19-year-old battling leukemia, decide to continue a difficult stem cell treatment. “This kid did not want to try it. He had twelve hours left to live,” Ciara shared. Facing one of the darkest moments of his life, Wright was ready to give up after a severe reaction to the therapy.

Russell Wilson stepped in and shared a deeply personal story about his own father’s struggle. “I told Milton to keep fighting like my dad did,” Wilson explained in The Player’s Tribune. His father, Harrison Wilson, passed away in 2010 after a long battle with diabetes complications, fighting until the very end. Inspired by Russell’s words, Milton changed his mind, saying, “I want to do it.”

The power of encouragement and hope

Ciara called the experience “a gift,” highlighting the profound impact of hope and encouragement. Today, Milton Wright is in remission and has become an advocate for other young patients, urging them to continue their treatments.
“Before you know it, the kid changed his mind, got up and was like, ‘I want to do it.’ Now he is in the hospital telling other kids to try it,” Ciara explained. Also Read: “I've always been raised with….”: Gracie Hunt sparks debate with bold lifestyle and growing public influenceRussell and Ciara’s nonprofit, Why Not You Foundation, focuses on empowering people to take action and make a difference in others’ lives.
