Calvin Ridley’s Titans future in doubt as Tennessee weighs major contract move
The Tennessee Titans might have to make a big decision this summer, and veteran wide receiver Calvin Ridley seems to be at the center of it. Reports say that the organization is genuinely thinking about getting rid of the former All-Pro, even though he has two years left on his big-money deal.
Ridley signed a four-year, $92 million agreement with the Tennessee Titans before the 2024 season. He had a fantastic year with the Jacksonville Jaguars, receiving for 1,000 yards. At the time, it was clear that Tennessee sought to make their offense more competitive by doing this. But things haven't gone as planned.
Ridley’s 2025 season was a tough one. Limited by injuries and inconsistency, he managed just 17 receptions, and a dramatic fall from the back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Despite flashes during training camp and early optimism about his chemistry with quarterback Cam Ward, Ridley never truly found his rhythm once the regular season began.
The Titans finished with a 3-14 record, triggering a full-scale reset. Head coach Brian Callahan was fired midseason, and with a new coaching staff set to take over, roster decisions are now under fresh evaluation.
Tennessee has more choices when it comes to money. Ridley will make $21.75 million in 2026, but only a little over $3 million of that is guaranteed. If the salary cap predictions are right, getting rid of Ridley would free up a lot of space without hurting the team in the long run. This is a terrific choice for a team that wants to construct its roster around a young core.
Even though Ridley's past performance and experience are still useful, the Titans need to decide if it's worth the risk to bet on him having a better season. This is especially significant since they want to give Ward better weaponry to help him get better.
Going into the offseason, the Titans' wide receiver room is still one of the biggest mysteries. Throughout 2025, the team faced issues with injuries, not having enough players, and inconsistent play. Tennessee might not want to sign an expensive, elderly receiver who had a horrible year last year because they need to fill a lot of holes on their roster.
That said, Ridley was only one season away from playing at a high level. If he stays healthy and receives a new offense, he might still play his best football at Tennessee or somewhere else.
The Titans are getting set for a new era, thus Ridley's future is unclear. We'll find out in the next several months if Tennessee wants to be patient and trust his track record or if they want to start over from scratch as part of a wider rebuild.
