Buffalo Bills Lock In Khalil Shakir with Four-Year $60.2M Deal After Breakout Year

The Buffalo Bills secure wide receiver Khalil Shakir with a four-... Read More
The Buffalo Bills aren’t letting Khalil Shakir go anywhere. The team has signed the third-year wide receiver to a four-year contract extension, keeping him in Buffalo through 2029. While the official numbers haven’t been released, Spotrac estimates the deal at $60.2 million, with $32 million guaranteed—a well-earned payday for one of the team’s biggest breakout stars.

Khalil Shakir’s Rise to Stardom in Buffalo Bills

Khalil Shakir wasn’t supposed to be the guy in Buffalo’s offense. Drafted in the fifth round out of Boise State in 2022, he started his career as a depth piece, working his way into a bigger role. But in 2024, when the Bills needed someone to step up, he delivered.

He led the team with 76 receptions for 821 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season, proving to be one of Josh Allen’s most reliable targets. He didn’t slow down in the playoffs either, catching 18 passes for 174 yards over three games, including a strong showing in the Bills’ AFC Championship loss to Kansas City Chiefs.

It wasn’t just the numbers that made an impression—it was how he played. Tough catches in traffic, big plays when the Bills needed them most, and a quiet consistency that kept the offense moving.

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane had plenty of praise for Shakir after the deal was announced:"You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in this building who has something bad to say about Khalil. He just shows up, works, and makes plays. He’s Mr. Dependable.”

Buffalo’s receiving corps has been in flux. Stefon Diggs was traded to Houston, and in October, the Bills brought in Amari Cooper from Cleveland, sending a third-round pick in 2025 and a seventh in 2026 in exchange for the veteran Pro Bowler and a late-round pick swap. Cooper added stability to the offense, but his contract expires after 2025, and so does Mack Hollins'.

That made locking in Shakir even more important. The Bills know their wide receiver group could change in the next year or two, but they wanted to make sure Shakir remained a part of the foundation.

Shakir’s extension is another step in Buffalo’s effort to keep a competitive roster around Josh Allen. The team is still searching for that elusive Super Bowl appearance, and they know continuity matters.

For Shakir, the deal is validation. He went from a Day 3 draft pick to a leading receiver on a playoff team. Now, he’s got security, and the Bills have a young playmaker locked in for years to come.

As Buffalo shapes its future, one thing is clear—Shakir is a big part of it.
