Lancashire County Cricket Club have written to the BCCI seeking permission to sign Laxman, as an overseas player, after India’s Test series against England ends in August.
MUMBAI, July 14: Test batsman VVS Laxman is likely to turn out for English county side Lancashire, later this season.
Lancashire County Cricket Club have written to the BCCI seeking permission to sign Laxman, as an overseas player, after India’s Test series against England ends in August. Laxman is currently part of the Indian team.
Lancashire’s current overseas players are Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Aussie Brad Hodge.

Next week Jayasuriya will return home and will be replaced by spin magician Muttiah Muralitharan who had taken a break for the Bangladesh Test series.
But, by mid-August, both Murali and Hodge will be required to head home for training camps for the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup to be held in South Africa.
So, Lancashire looked around and zeroed in on Laxman. "Our cricket manager Mike Watkinson is looking at all the options. Laxman is one of them. We wanted to check his availability and whether the BCCI can release him. We will know about Murali next week," said Jim Cumbes, the Lancashire CEO.
Board secretary Niranjan Shah said he has replied to Lancashire. "Normally we allow players to go to county cricket. But in this case the county came to us before the player. So I have told Lancashire that Laxman needs to contact us first. We would have no problem to allow him, but the procedure has to be followed," said Shah.
Laxman is currently playing for India against England 'A' in the final warm-up game before the Test series begins.
