BELFAST, June 28: South Africa are likely to include fast bowler Dale Steyn and off-spinner Thandi Tshabalala to add variety in their attack in the second One-dayer against India on Friday.
Though both Steyn and Tshabalala are down with mild flu, they are expected to be fit for the game. Vernon Philander and another pacer are likely to be left out of the playing XI.
"In the first game, our attack was fairly predictable in the middle overs," said South African coach Micky Arthur.
"We need to ask some serious questions in the middle overs so we thought of making some changes and adding a bit more variety to our attack."
Charles Langevedlt, Vernon Philander, Andew Hall and Jacques Kallis, all of whom bowl medium pace, operated in the middle overs and were not able to trouble either Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Dravid who put on 158 runs for the third wicket.
"Again, there's no point having young players in the reserves, if we are not going to play them against good opposition. These guys need to bowl to the likes of Tendulkar and Dravid," Arthur said.
"Philander and one of our other seamers are going to miss out," he said.
The 24-year Steyn is a tearaway quickie with an experience of 11 Tests and four one-day games while the 22-year old off spinner Thandi Tshabalala is waiting fot his international debut.
Having won the first game riding on the brilliance of their captain Jacques Kallis (91 not out), Arthur wants the other players to follow the skipper's example.
"We have urged the other batsmen to do what Kallis did in the first game. The frontline batsmen need to pick up what Kallis did," said Arthur.
Asked for his opinion on the pitch, Arthur said, "In the first game, the ball was stopping a bit. Also the Indian spinners did well and a thought went in for us to include Tshabalala. However, tomorrow's game will be different and a lot will also depend on the conditions."
