BANGALORE: It doesn't pay to sit on your laurels, nor does attempting to ride on a meagre first-innings lead. It was a lesson that Zonal Cricket Academy West learnt the hard way at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Friday.
In the process, it was ZCA North who deservedly lifted the National Cricket Academy-conducted Col Hemu Adhikari Trophy for the under-19 lads.
Going into the final day at 155 for 5, 202 ahead of North, who had conceded a 47-run first innings lead, West were bundled out in a mere 16.4 overs on the final morning. North seamer Sunny Sherawat was in his elements on a cloudy morning, picking up all the remaining five wickets as West managed to add a mere 29 to their overnight score.
Having achieved part one of the near-impossible by bowling West out for 184, North then went about closing out the second part in style.
Brief scores: West 271 all out in 104 overs and 184 all out in 82.4 overs (Nikunj Mohite 68, Manpreet Juneja 28; Gurinder Singh 2/36, Sunny Sherawat 6-49) lost to North Zone: 224 all out in 94.5 overs and 235/4 in 49.3 overs (Himanshu Chawla 109, Mandeep Singh 74, Sumeet Verma 40 no; Jaydev Unadkat 3/54).
