LAHORE: "If Aishwarya Rai or Preity Zinta come for the match, ask them to come and meet me," said Yasir Hameed.

That was Saturday and the euphoria of man-of-the-match show in Peshawar was still in the air. Sunday was different.

Yasir scored a clean 45, was set for more when he let adrenalin get the better of him.

In trying to deposit Murali Kartik somewhere near Wagah border he was out stumped. "It was a bad shot. I was embarrassed. Inzy bhai was understandably livid at me," he told TNN after the match on Sunday.

Yasir says he is beginning to understand what is expected of him. "Cricket is a learning curve. If you ask Sachin Tendulkar, even now he’d be learning something or the other. That innings in Peshawar has unlocked something in me. I think I can construct an innings better. That was the best knock of my career so far," he said.

Yasir, whose late father was an advocate, feels you should have targets. "Like my targets are both short term and long term. My short term goal is to get at least a 50 every two innings and in long term a 1000 runs in both forms of the game, he said.

He admires Sachin Tendulkar for his balance and likes Rahul Dravid for his ability to concentrate for long hours.

"Sachin is my favourite cricketer but I still try to pick the best aspects of everyone’s game. Coach Javed Miandad whose brain I try to pick for many little things. He is a great mind. For instance, when I got out the other day to Irfan Pathan in Peshawar, Javed bhai was gesturing from the dressing-room that he’d bowl a slower ball. But I didn’t see him and Irfan bowled just that," Yasir recalled.

For Yasir, India means Sachin Tendulkar and Taj Mahal. I just know about these two things besides Bollywood. Love the movies." Aishwarya, Preity didn’t come, he was told.

"OK, I like Shahrukh as well. Is he around?" asks Yasir with a wink.
