NEW DELHI: Former cricketers staged a silent march in protest against the DDCA outside the Kotla on Wednesday. Leading the march was former India and Delhi player
Kirti Azad. Former India cricketers Madan Lal, Vivek Razdan and Robin Singh (jr) also attended the gathering.
The protesters were not allowed to go in as the Kotla gates were shut, but the cricketers took recourse to Gandhigiri - through banners, flowers and candles - to make their point.
One of banners said: ‘DDCA, get well soon’.
When Azad was asked if he was indulging in Gandhigiri, he said: "We are followers of Gandhi and that is why this silent march. We want cricket to prosper here. What happened is unforgettable."
Even Madan Lal sounded angry: "We are ashamed of what happened on Sunday. We want to tell the DDCA that such an incident should not be repeated again."
Former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi, who was supposed to join the dharna, but eventually, couldn’t make it to the Kotla on time, said: "I am very upset with what happened. You can’t blame individuals. It’s a collective responsibility and DDCA should own up."
Bedi also met the DDCA president Arun Jaitley and in a two-hour meeting explained his point of view.
Meanwhile, DDCA has refunded Rs 36 lakh in gate collections to the spectators following Sunday’s abandonment of the ODI.
DDCA’s media manager Ravi Jain said that Rs 26 lakh was refunded on Tuesday and around Rs 10 lakh was paid back through different channels on Wednesday.
