MUMBAI: Mumbai Ranji skipper repeated a common saying about the team, ``It does not need to be led.'' He was speaking after receiving the inaugural Ashok Mankad captaincy award of Sports Promotion Group at a function at Raja Shivaji High School on Thursday.
``The players I had with me knew what they had to do so, it was easy to lead the side,'' said Jaffer who said coach Pravin Amre's man management skills also counted in the win.
Amre said,``The seniors needed their space and we gave them. We couldn't expect things from them as from the young.''
Amre and the team will tour Baroda to practice and play two day games from Friday.
``We need this kind of practice for bonding before the Irani Cup game. The players will be playing the JP Atreya trophy and then straight into the Irani Cup game.''
The Mumbai teams that won the Ranji, u-19 and University men's and women's titles were felicitated.
Also honoured were statistician Sudhir Vaidya and commentators Suresh Saraiya and Pradeep Vijayakar.
