NEW DELHI: With less than two weeks to go for the start of the domestic season, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (
DDCA) finally got its act together on Thursday to constitute the various selection committees and appoint coaches and managers for state teams.
For weeks, the DDCA's ad-hoc committee - constituted to run sporting affairs - had been at loggerheads with the newly-constituted Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) over the list of appointees, and at least one CIC member, former India allrounder
Kirti Azad, said he was contemplating resigning.
"The CIC's recommendations weren't taken into account and they just made their own list and added and deleted a few names," he told TOI, "I'm personally contemplating resigning. Why form a committee of eminent ex-cricketers if their recommendations are not binding?"
The DDCA insisted the majority of differences had been resolved. "There were some disagreements but we agreed on around 90% of the appointees," said a senior office-bearer. "If you notice, most of the panels have eminent ex-cricketers who have contributed a lot to Delhi cricket." Contentious names included ex-India opener Chetan Chauhan and former India and Delhi pacer Amit Bhandari among many others.
