Raptors guard RJ Barrett is still out with a right knee sprain sustained on November 23 against the Brooklyn Nets. Barrett received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right knee, which should speed up his rehabilitation and allow him to return to the court sooner rather than later.
His condition will be updated in a week, which means he will miss Toronto's next NBA Cup game against the New York Knicks, as well as any future cup games if the team advances. RJ Barrett will be re-evaluated in a week after receiving the injection to address his knee sprain.
RJ Barrett’s knee sprain forces Toronto Raptors to struggle with their offence without him
The Toronto Raptors lost their footing after a strong start to the season, but still remain fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 15-10 record. RJ Barrett has been a key contributor to the Raptors' success, with the team going 3-5 since he damaged his knee.
The team's starting shooting guard and leading scorer for the previous two seasons will be out for at least another week due to a sprained right knee. They inform the public via an official notice which they uploaded on X. It stated:
“RJ BARRETT INJURY UPDATE.. The Toronto Raptors announced Monday that guard-forward RJ Barrett, diagnosed with a right knee sprain, continues to progress. He has been treated with a platelet-rich plasma injection, and his condition will be updated in a week…”
It continued:
“Barrett is averaging 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 30.9 minutes in 17 games (all starts) this season.
He is shooting .506 (120-237) from the field, including .356 (31-87) from three-point range, and has scored 20 or more points in 10 games..”
The Raptors said Monday afternoon that, while Barrett's condition is still improving, he has had a platelet-rich plasma injection and will be evaluated again in a week. Without Barrett, Toronto is missing their finest driver, and the offence has clearly suffered as a result of his absence.
RJ Barrett’s injury blow has pushed Toronto’s struggles into deeper trouble
This season, the Canadian-born forward averaged 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists over 17 games. For the time being, the Raptors will be without Barrett. His absence has clearly hampered the Raptors, who have lost five of the eight games he has missed.
Additionally, he will now miss Tuesday's NBA Cup quarterfinal game against the New York Knicks, as well as the remaining potential semi-final and championship games. All of these will be played in Las Vegas this weekend. He will also miss some additional games as well.
Barrett has averaged 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 17 games this season, while playing 30.9 minutes per game. Toronto has the NBA's worst offensive rating over the last eight games, which corresponds to the number of games Barrett has missed thus far. Hence, the team is eagerly waiting for their star player.
