The
Golden State Warriors are reportedly looking to get another star, and this time,
Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat is the target. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, negotiations are enroute and Butler is regarded as a potential trade target. This development comes after previous failed attempts to acquire Lauri Markkanen, Paul George, and LeBron James.
Golden State’s pursuit of Butler signals their determination to bolster their roster as they look to maximize the remaining prime years of Stephen Curry. While nothing has been finalized, Charania noted,
“The Heat are open to listening to offers,” adding that Butler
“is open to destinations such as two of the Texas teams (Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks) and the Golden State Warriors.”
Proposed trade details between Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat
Reports suggest that a potential trade package could involve multiple moving pieces from both sides. Here’s what the deal could look like:
Golden State Warriors receive:- Jimmy Butler
- Josh Richardson
- Alec Burks
- Thomas Bryant
Miami Heat receive:- Andrew Wiggins
- De’Anthony Melton
- Gary Payton II
- Jonathan Kuminga
- 2025 first-round pick (unprotected)
- 2027 first-round pick (unprotected)
This proposed package allows Golden State to acquire a proven star while Miami gains valuable draft capital, young talent, and salary relief.
Why do the Golden State Warriors want Jimmy Butler?

In times of need, opposing defenses may easily close in on
Stephen Curry because the Warriors have had trouble finding a trustworthy backup scorer. Butler's arrival would alter that dynamic and give Golden State a closer who has seen action.
He can still get to the queue a lot and muscle his way to his favorite areas on the floor. For Miami right now, Butler averages 19.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. He is a perfect fit for Golden State's system because of his reputation as one of the league's most clutch players.
Butler's chronology coincides with Curry's at age 35. The Warriors would want to match his deal, which expires in the summer of 2027, with Curry's if they were to sign him. Butler and Curry would lead the Warriors to two postseason runs as a result.
Additionally, Josh Richardson, Alec Burks, and Thomas Bryant would be included in the deal as salary fillers. They would fill key depth roles on the Warriors' bench. While Golden State currently boasts solid depth, moving key players to match Butler’s salary would require them to replenish the roster with playable veterans.
Why the Miami Heat would make the trade and give Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors?
Miami is reportedly open to moving Butler, with concerns about the financial burden of re-signing him next summer. Butler has a player option for $52.4 million for the 2025 season, which Charania claims he is unlikely to sign. This could make him an unrestricted free agent, giving Miami even more reason to explore a trade.
The Heat are currently not viewed as a championship contender, and moving Butler would provide them with future flexibility. This proposed deal would see them acquire a mix of veteran role players, a promising young prospect in Jonathan Kuminga, and two unprotected first-round picks (2025 and 2027).
Kuminga is regarded as the crown jewel of the deal for Miami. Many believe he could unlock his potential in a system that plays in his comfort zone. On top of that, Andrew Wiggins' resurgence this season makes him a more attractive trade piece.
Miami would also receive Gary Payton II, known for his defensive prowess, and De'Anthony Melton, who serves as a salary filler but remains a solid contributor when healthy.
