NBA insider reveals that the Minnesota Timberwolves have “zero interest” in trading Donte DiVincenzo

The Minnesota Timberwolves are now 8-7 for this 2024-25 NBA season, with a road game against the Boston Celtics. Newly acquired players Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo have shown some stats but are not yet very comfortable in their new surroundings coming from being traded from the Knicks. There were some rumblings lately that DiVincenzo could be a candidate to be on the move once again if things don't turn around quickly, but now, NBA insider Marc Stein is hitting those rumors with a reality check, per his account on Substack.

Minnesota Timberwolves have denied any rumors about Donte DiVincenzo's trading

NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the Minnesota Timberwolves have denied any rumors about Donte DiVincenzo's departure from the team. “I saw all kinds of Twitter chatter Friday about the supposed status of Minnesota's Donte DiVincenzo as a trade target for contending teams,” Stein said in his newsletter.

He added, “That runs counter to everything I've heard about the Wolves, who wanted DiVincenzo for more than a year before they actually acquired him and are said to have zero interest in fielding inquiries for him not yet three full months into his Wolves tenure.”

Timberwolves won back-to-back national titles with the Villanova Wildcats in 2016 and 2018, the latter of which saw him as the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. DiVincenzo was drafted with the 17th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks, whom he helped bring a first championship to in 2021; he spent the following season with the Sacramento Kings.

After some years, he has also played for the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks, and he holds records in the Knicks franchise for single-game and single-season three-point shots made. He also holds the NBA record for most three-point shots made in a playoff game 7 (9).

On 2 October 2024, DiVincenzo, Keita Bates-Diop, Julius Randle, and one lottery-protected first-round draft pick were traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a three-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets in which Charlotte received via sign and trade DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown Jr., Duane Washington Jr., three second-round picks and draft compensation. The Knicks ended up acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns and the draft rights to James Nnaji.
