In September 2024, the 2023 MVP reportedly, signed a three-year maximum extension worth $193 million with a player option keeping him home through 2028-29. Along this because of the new extension, Joel Embiid’s annual salary will jump up to a staggering $62.7 million for the 2026-27 season, pushing his career earnings to a projected total over $500 million by the end of the 2028 season, which is currently at $321 million.

Embiid’s deal consumes a significant amount of the team's total cap space, leaving a thin margin, and with the league’s stricter rules, the franchise has limited flexibility in free agency.
