Jalen Williams injury update brings a major setback for Oklahoma City at the worst possible moment. As the Thunder prepare for a winner-take-all Game 7 against the San Antonio Spurs, one of their most important players will be watching from the sidelines instead of helping on the floor.
The timing adds to the difficulty of a series for the Thunder, and on top of that, it has already tested both teams. Oklahoma City enters Saturday night needing a response after a crushing Game 6 loss, with a place in the NBA Finals hanging in the balance. The stakes are clear. Win, and the Thunder move on to face the New York Knicks. Lose, and a promising season comes to an abrupt end.

No. The Thunder officially ruled Williams out for Game 7 because of a left hamstring strain that has lingered throughout the postseason.
The injury first surfaced during Oklahoma City's first-round sweep of the Phoenix Suns and became a recurring problem as the playoffs progressed. Williams returned for the start of the Western Conference Finals and looked sharp in Game 1, finishing with 26 points and seven rebounds despite the Thunder's double-overtime loss. But the optimism disappeared quickly when he aggravated the injury just seven minutes into Game 2.
After missing Games 3, 4 and 5, Williams attempted another comeback in Game 6. The results showed how difficult the situation had become. He played only 10 minutes, attempted one shot and scored a single point as San Antonio rolled to a 118-91 victory that forced a decisive Game 7.
Head coach Mark Daigneault praised the All-Star's determination to give the team whatever he could.
"It was a unique situation. Ever since he got hurt, he's been hell-bent on trying to get himself to this point," Daigneault said fo Williams. "I give him a lot of credit. He's a big-time team guy. He's a big-time competitor. He's obviously not a hundred percent. He didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what to expect, so it was a matter of getting him out there in kind of an insulated role and see what he can bring to the team.
"... He hasn't done a full return-to-play the way that he would if this was the regular season and yet he just wants to do whatever he can to try to contribute whatever he can to the team."
What happened to Jalen Williams?
Injuries have followed Williams throughout much of the season. The 25-year-old already missed significant time because of wrist and hamstring issues, limiting him to only 33 regular-season games.
Even with those interruptions, he remained productive, averaging 17.1 points, 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 48.4 percent from the field. His impact extends well beyond the stat sheet. Williams is one of Oklahoma City's most versatile defenders and secondary playmakers, giving the Thunder flexibility on both ends of the floor.
The organization hoped rest would allow him to recover in time for the conference finals. Instead, the hamstring injury refused to cooperate, forcing the Thunder to make a difficult decision ahead of their biggest game of the season.
Why losing Jalen Williams would be a major blow for the Thunder

Oklahoma City has shown impressive dominance without Williams. The Thunder have won plenty of playoff games despite his absence, and players such as Jared McCain, Alex Caruso, Aaron Wiggins, and Jaylin Williams have helped fill important minutes.
Still, replacing Williams completely is impossible. And the Thunder need him, especially against Wemby.
Last season's All-Star and All-NBA selection provides scoring, defense, ball-handling, and experience in one package. Few players on the roster can impact a game in so many different ways. His Game 1 performance against San Antonio served as a reminder of what Oklahoma City loses when he isn't available.
The Thunder will also be without Ajay Mitchell, who has been ruled out with a right soleus strain after averaging 15.1 points per game during the playoffs.
