Police were dispatched to Iman Shumpert’s Atlanta home after a disturbance involving influencer Joanna Donnejour, setting off a dispute that has since spilled into public view. Officers arrived just before dawn after a call that described a heated argument, a claim of physical force, and a demand for legal action. The responding team found no injuries and filed no charges, though the accusations have created a surge of attention around the former NBA champion.
The incident occurred during the early hours of November 26. Shumpert, now 35, told police he had repeatedly asked Donnejour to leave his home before the situation escalated. She countered with a detailed accusation and vowed to pursue a lawsuit, sparking a new round of scrutiny for the ex-New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers guard.
Iman Shumpert accused of dragging Joanna Donnejour during the confrontation
Joanna Donnejour told officers she argued with Iman Shumpert in his room about him communicating with another woman. According to the report, another female was present when the exchange happened. Donnejour alleged the dispute ended with Shumpert “dragging her by her wrist and foot toward the stairs.” She claimed he also “hit her” and asked officers to press charges.
A separate woman at the scene contradicted that account. She told police Shumpert asked Donnejour twice to leave the room before “grabbed Ms. Donnejour by the wrist to escort her out but this was not done in an aggressive manner.” Officers stayed on-site until Donnejour left. Their report noted no visible injuries, markings, or bruises on her body, and cited witness statements for the decision not to pursue charges.
Bodycam video captured Donnejour saying, “see you in court - and on Instagram in the morning,” addressing Shumpert as she exited the home.
Iman Shumpert responds amid growing attention and recent personal turmoil
Shumpert later released a statement addressing the situation. “Last week, I had friends over and a visitor at my residence was politely asked to leave several times after I witnessed her damaging personal property,” he said.
“The police were called, invited inside and they spoke with multiple people who saw what happened. After assessing the situation, the police instructed her to leave repeatedly. She refused to vacate the property after being asked to leave multiple times and only after the officers escorted her outside did she eventually depart. This matter was quickly closed that night by the police after they did their investigation.”
The incident comes months after Shumpert finalized a contentious divorce from Teyana Taylor. The split grabbed headlines following accusations involving finances, parenting issues, and leaked court documents. Shumpert, who helped the Cavaliers win the 2016 NBA title, has not played in the league since 2021.
