In a heartfelt gesture, he turned the postgame moment into a powerful display of respect. His brother Thanasis followed suit, representing Bronny James. The scene quickly caught attention across the NBA.

While jersey swaps are common, Antetokounmpo’s comment on the moment also showed that he has utmost respect for the Lakers legend for his glorious career in the NBA. Of course, James has been one of the two greatest players of all time as he secured a place in the NBA GOAT debate with Michael Jordan.

The Bucks secured a 105-101 victory, and Giannis Antetokounmpo anchored it with solid defense. With the score tied late, he blocked James at the rim, then followed it with a decisive steal seconds later to seal the outcome. He finished with 21 points on efficient shooting, but his composure and instincts defined the closing stretch.

After the game, Antetokounmpo explained what the jersey meant to him. “You never know. Might be our last game against one another,” he said via ESPN. “It means a lot to me. I think he’s a blueprint for every athlete, not just basketball athlete. Being able to be consistent for 23 years. Available. Be a winner, lead by example. It’s incredible. And any opportunity I have to be around greatness and compete against greatness, I will always take it. I never take it for granted.


“I have the utmost respect for him and his family and the way he’s carried himself for 23 years. And as I said, I miss going against him. I think he brings the best out of me as a player and he’s one of the guys that I definitely look up to on the court and off the court.”

ESPN senior writer Ramona Shelburne later shared, “Giannis Antetokoumpo walked into the Bucks locker room tonight wearing a LeBron James jersey. His brother Thanasis had a Bronny James jersey. Giannis already had the Bronny jersey from a previous game they played. Apparently he just asked for them ;)”

Antetokounmpo also detailed how the exchange happened. “I got his jersey tonight. I think he's a blueprint for every athlete, not just basketball athlete.
