Dwyane Wade's wife Gabrielle Union opens up about the painful moments she went through trying to be accepted by the NBA legend's family

Dwyane Wade, the NBA legend, has inspired the world with the love he and his wife, popular actress Gabrielle Union, have shown towards each other over the last decade.

While Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union’s marriage seems perfect, the Being Mary Jane actress has admitted that the NBA legend’s family had issues with their relationship.

A few months ago, Dwyane Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, appeared on the Michelle Obama’s IMO podcast where she saod, "When I first met his family, the older sisters, who are closer in my age, immediately good…”

The popular actress added, “We're good in the hood. But with Tragil, because she has been the protector...She has been the watchdog. She has been the gatekeeper to keep him sane and to keep him doing everything he needs to do without interference from anybody."

Gabrielle Union continued, "Before I got to the wife stage, like when we were just the very beginning…I think Tragil and his mom were like, 'What do you want? Who are you, you older lady? What do you want?'"

For the unversed, Dwyane Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, have a nine year age gap as the actress is older than the NBA legend.

It seems Gabrielle Union had to reassure Dwyane Wade about the love she had for him as she tried to convince the NBA legend’s family.

The popular actress said, "I was like, 'Actually, we both just got divorced, so we're kind of in the same space. I didn't have a kid at 20, I'm still childless, and I'm not racing to do that, so I'm straight. I got my own bank account, so I'm good. I just like him, we'll see where it goes.'"

Despite facing issues, Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade tied the knot in 2014 after getting engaged at the end of 2013.

The two have spoken about how they continue to face issues in their marriage but they have always fought it together as a team.
