Breanna Stewart drops unpleasant CBA negotiations update amid uncertain WNBA season
The deadline for the collective bargaining agreement is on March 10. However, there have been no significant developments to date, according to the athletes. Recently, the vice president of the WNBPA, Breanna Stewart, appeared on NBA Today. She dropped a few unpleasant updates on the negotiations. This brings uncertainty for the upcoming WNBA season.
The deadline was set for March 10 so that the regular schedule of the season would not be disrupted. The season has been scheduled to begin on May 8, 2026. Ahead of the season, the college draft, the expansion draft and the free agency have also been lined up. With everything at stake, Breanna explained how the athletes will have to go on strike despite not wanting to do it.
Breanna continued, “And as everybody knows, we have approved the… We have the strike authorization vote ready. So that leverage is not going away.” It seems like the athletes of the WNBA are quite prepared for what is coming next after March 10. However, Breanna even clarified that the strike step is not something that they want to do. She ended her statement with, “Do we wanna do it? No we don't but if we have to we will."

Athletes are not happy with the developments and they feel a lack of involvement in the entire process. Breanna, along with Kelsey Plum, wrote a 3-page letter recently to WNBPA executive director Terri Jackson highlighting these key issues. In this light, Breanna was asked about the current state of negotiations in the recent NBA Today episode. She was quite blatant about the strike being imminent.
