The two-day championship for U-14 boys and girls was conducted as a part of the National Basketball Association’s comprehensive youth basketball initiative and under the

Reliance Foundation Jr NBA

program. The event that was supported by Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) was the first school level tournament of the NBA in city.

In the girls’ summit clash, Dhara Phate led from the front and scored a game-high 19 points as BVM, Trimurti Nagar, defeated arch rivals Centre Point School, Katol Road, 31-28. The quarter-wise progress for the winners read 8-6, 6-6, 4-7, 13-9 with the

keeping their cool in the dying stage to emerge triumphant.

The boy’s title clash too went down the wires with CPS, Dabha, surviving a late scare from School of Scholars, Wanadongri, to emerge as the champion team with a three-point (29-26) triumph.

City’s emerging forward Taaran Kakkad (13) gelled well with point guard Aditya Sharma (12) as the duo scored 25 of the 29 points to guide CPS to an exciting victory. The quarter-wise scores for the winners read 12-3, 4-8, 4-6, 9-9.

Players of the finalists teams in both the boys and girls category were given trophies, NBA team Tshirts and certificates.

The prizes were distributed by the NBA India coach Phil Calvert and secretary of NDBA Bhavesh Kuchanwar.

Boys (Final): Centre Point School Dabha (Taaran Kakkad 13, Aditya Sharma 12) bt School of Scholars wanadongri (Part Borkute 12, Laksh Joshi 10) 29-26 (12-3, 4-8, 4-6, 9-9).
