PANAJI: Wrestler
Yogeshwar Dutt is almost 'on the mat' - the London Games bronze medallist has been grappling with time and a troublesome right knee.
Now, he's contemplating pulling out of the FILA World Wrestling Championships, slated to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from September 16.
The 30-year-old sustained a medial collateral ligament (MCL) tear on his right knee in January while training.
Despite regular physiotherapy, the injury showed no signs of relenting.
And, as it appears now, the Haryana-based athlete has to undergo a surgery to fix the joint.
"I got my MRI reports a few days back. I have to go to South Africa in August for an operation. The dates haven't been finalized yet," Yogeshwar told TOI on Wednesday. "As per the doctor's assumptions, it might take six months for me to come back. I might have to sit out of the World Championships."
Despite injury, Yogeshwar hit the practice mat every day. "There is no point sitting idle. The muscles around the MCL need to be strengthened," Yogeshwar added.
