PANAJI: Billiards and snookers which is more popular in urban area like Chennai and Kolkata should be promoted in rural areas, said Geeti Sethi.
Geeti Sethi is in Panaji along with eight others top ranking players to participate in the tournament to select the national team for the forth coming Asian billiards championships to be held in Pune from April 11 to 19 and snookers in China from May 2 to 10 respectively.
"We have won the title 23 times but still these games are not much popular in India. That is why we want to promote these games in rural areas of the country," eight times world champion Geeti said.
"In my 25 years of playing career, I have not won single gold medal and that is why I want to participate in this tournament," said the 47 years Arjuna and Padma Shree awardee.
This game requires cool mind and concentration and Pankaj Advani has in him these qualities that is why he is regarded as the world class player who became world champion at the age of 17, said Sethi.
Pankaj Advani, who was also there along with Sethi for the press conference said, "I do not want to set any target. I want to take things one at a time and right now I am concentrating on this tournament," said Advani.
After this tournament, one day workshop will be held in billiards and snookers for upcoming boys and girls. National coaches like Subhas Agarawal, Manoj Kotari along with Geeti Sethi, Pankaj Adavani and Devendra Joshi will give their expertise.
