NEW DELHI: World champion powerlifter Mahant
Gaurav Sharma, who recently switched to shooting, has bagged a bronze medal in 10m ARM shooting event at the Khelo Masters Games 2019-20 in Ghaziabad. Shooters from all over the state participated in the event, that took place at the St Teresa School in Indirapuram.
After winning bronze, Gaurav said he is working hard on the new sport he opted and will deliver gold in the future competitions.
"I am happy with bronze but this is just the beginning and I will work harder to clinch gold next time. I want to represent India in Olympics and for that I know I have to practice day and night. I have won several medals in power lifting and want to win it here in shooting as well." Gaurav is currently training under India’s international coach Falaq Sher Alam.
Gaurav was recently honored during the Indo Arab Leaders Summit and Awards 2019 in Dubai. He got ‘Visionary Leaders of the Year-Sports’ award. Gaurav was also conferred with the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award in London.
He is a 'mahant' (priest) in a temple in Chandni Chowk. In 2007, he had won four gold medals at the Commonwealth Championships in New Zealand. He had clinched two gold medals at the 2016 World Championships in England.
