KOLKATA: Top officials of some six state sports bodies along with Bengal Olympic Association (BOA) president Ajit Banerjee met West Bengal state sports secretary this week to chart out the path of future development of sports in the state. According to information received, most of the officials called for hiring better coaches in different disciplines.
"What we tried to emphasise in the meeting is that we have coaches for nursery stages.

But we feel the players need better coaches and guidance to reach the next stages. And for that we have asked the state government to bring in well-qualified coaches," an official present in the meeting stated.
It was learnt that the associations do not have reservations about foreign coaches too provided the government can afford to have them on board.
Officials of boxing, athletics, archery, swimming, gymnastic and table tennis federations were present in the meeting.
BOA president Banerjee also harped on the issue of developing good sports infrastructure in the state. Accordingly the BOA have demanded that Rabindra Sarovor stadium in south Kolkata should be renovated and made as good as the Salt Lake Stadium.
The spots secretary is likely to meet the representatives of other sports associations in the near future too.
