NEW DELHI: The Milwaukee Brewers have secured the services of first baseman Rhys Hoskins, agreeing to a $34 million, two-year contract. The deal, filling a crucial gap for the Brewers, is pending a physical, as confirmed by a source familiar with the move to The Associated Press on Tuesday night.

The Brewers, coming off an impressive NL Central title-winning season with a 92-70 record in 2023, are aiming to fortify their roster for another postseason run. Hoskins, a powerful bat in the middle of the lineup, adds offensive prowess to the team.

The Brewers had Rowdy Tellez and Carlos Santana at first base last season but opted to part ways with Tellez, who subsequently signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in December. Santana, remaining a free agent, leaves the door open for Hoskins to become a key contributor in the upcoming season.

Flyers goaltender Carter Hart is taking an indefinite leave of absence for personal reasons, a development announced amidst the baseball offseason news. The 25-year-old Hart, despite a strong overall season, is stepping away after a challenging recent performance.

Rhys Hoskins, a 30-year-old first baseman, missed the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL in his left knee. Despite being able to swing before the season concluded, he did not see any playing time during the Phillies' run to the NL Championship Series. Hoskins, the second-longest tenured Phillies player behind Aaron Nola, had a $12 million, one-year contract last season.

In 2022, Hoskins showcased his offensive prowess, hitting .246 with 30 home runs and 79 RBIs. His impactful contributions to the Phillies included a memorable home run in Game 3 of the NL Division Series, earning him a place on a mural inside Citizens Bank Park.

The right-handed slugger burst onto the scene in 2017, hitting 11 home runs in his first 18 big league games. He finished that season with 18 home runs and a fourth-place finish in NL Rookie of the Year voting despite playing only 50 games. Notably, Hoskins led the National League with 116 walks in 2019.

With the addition of Rhys Hoskins, the Milwaukee Brewers are poised to enhance their offensive firepower as they set their sights on a successful campaign in the upcoming MLB season.
