CHENNAI: Maharashtra's

Arnaav Sareen

grabbed the spotlight as he brought about a major upset in the boys U-17 quarter-final of the

national sub-junior and junior squash championship

in Jaipur on Thursday by beating the second seed Diwakar Singh of UP in a fighting four-game match that had all the trappings of a thriller.

The 5/8 seed, Sareen was quick on the start and stunned his higher seeded opponent by grabbing the first game in a close run. Though Diwakar recoiled well, he could not sustain the tempo against a player who seemed ready for the occasion.

A similar result came about in the girls U-11 section where UP's 5/8 seed Navya Sundararajan stunned the second seed Akansha Gupta of Maharashtra to make it to the last four.

Expectedly the competition rose as the matches reached the semi-final stage amidst a few upsets. A few long drawn encounters formed the feature as the young talents went about in all seriousness to gain attention and recognition.
