HYDERABAD: The

National level multi-class sailing Championship

, which is being conducted as part of the Hyderabad

Sailing

Week, will be held at

Hussain Sagar

from July 2 to July 7. As many as 200 sailors from across the country are expected to participate in the six-day event, compared to 186 entries received last year.


As a precursor to the championship,

EME Sailing Association

with the support of the Laser Class Association of India has conducted a special coaching camp under a foreign coach from June 20 to 30 here.

Speaking at press conference here on Sunday, Major General TSA Narayanan, Vice Commodore, EME Sailing Association said, “Hyderabad has become a popular destination for the sailing in the country. The wind conditions during June and July months at Hussain Sagar are most favourable to hone the skills in boat handling and understanding wind shifts. Since the championship has been accredited as the national ranking event by the Yachting Association of India (YAI), a good performance here will be help sailors earn a place in the national team, he said.

Telangana sailors Sanjay, Ajay, Saurabh, Ashwini and Kirti would be participating in the Laser 407 category, he added.

As part of the sailing week, Green Brigade Walkathon will be conducted on July 5 at Sanjeevaiah Park and Biker’s Rally will be held at the EME Sailing Club on the following day at 7.00am.

Governor ESL Narasimhan will inaugurate the championship on July 2 at 2.45 pm.
