NAGPUR: With an eye of fulfilling his dream of playing in the world’s best basketball league in the US, India’s top prospect Princepal Singh picked a proven pathway to the NBA by making a move from California to Auckland.
The six-foot-nine forward from Punjab has signed a two-year development contract to play for New Zealand Breakers in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) in the upcoming season, starting December.
Last month, the 20-year-old was selected by Sacramento’s Stockton Kings in the 2021 NBA G-League draft for his second successive stint after representing NBA’s Ignite team. With international travel opening up, the ambitious Indian forward, however, decided to pack his bags from the G-League to play in the NBL, where he had participated at the Next Gen camp in 2019 and in the NBL1 competition with the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.
He admitted the proven pathway to the NBA through the Breakers is the reason he is packing up and moving away from California. “I am really excited to join the team and continue my development under Dan Shamir. The Breakers have shown with guys like RJ Hampton, Ousmane Dieng, and Hugo Besson that they are the premier team at developing players in the world,” Princepal was quoted as saying on the Breakers’ website.

Matt Walsh says Singh’s arrival in the camp will further solidify the team as an elite destination in the world for global talent. “Prince comes with experience from the NBA global academy and G-League Ignite. He is a very talented young man, one of the top prospects ever from India, and we are excited to have him,” Walsh said.
