NEW DELHI: The Indian elite athletes are eyeing an improvement in their timings at the

Delhi Half Marathon

on Sunday. There will be 23 women and 22 men Indian elite athletes participating in the race.


Suresh Kumar Patel, Srinu Bugatha, Pradeep Chaudhary in the men's category, and L Suriya - who created the course record in 2017 (for Indian women) with a timing of 70 minutes, 31 seconds - Parul Chaudhary and Priti Lamba in women's category will be the prime ones.

"The route is very nice. In 2017, I really enjoyed the run as the weather was also good. That's why, I put up a good performance that year. This year too the temperature is likely to hover around 23 degree Celsius. I am looking forward to another great experience. Hopefully, I will break the course record again," Suriya told TOI.

Interestingly, the runners this year will be awarded Rs 1 lakh as bonus prize if they break the course record. Parul Chaudhary, who is keen to make an impression this year, is delighted about the bonus cash prize on offer. "I will definitely give it my all to achieve a bonus prize," she said.

Srinu Bugatha, who has won over 100 medals in national and international running events since he took up the sport in 2010, is also eyeing the course record this year. "Everyone is a tough competitor; especially, Suresh and Pradeep will put up a tough challenge. I have come to participate with the target of setting my best time and will try to break the course record," said Bugatha.
