NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday congratulated athlete
Hima Das on winning gold in the women's 400m race in the U-20 World Athletics Championship.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said Das had covered 400m in just 51.46 seconds winning gold for India.
"It is worthy to mention that Hima Das is from a village in
Assam. She is an inspiration. The House prays for her future success," Mahajan said, amid thumping of desks by members.
The 18-year old sprinter scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete to win a gold at the world level.
Das hails from Shing village in Assam's Nagaon district.
