NEW DELHI: Reigning Paralympics champion Sumit Antil successfully defended his F64 javelin throw world title at the World Para Athletics Championships on Tuesday. Antil's impressive throw of 69.50m secured him the top spot on the podium.

Antil, a gold medalist at the Tokyo Paralympics and the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships, secured his victory by throwing his spear a distance of 69.50m, claiming the top spot on the podium. His compatriot, Sandeep, also made it to the podium, winning the bronze medal with a throw of 60.41m in the same event.

In the T63 high jump, Thangavelu Mariyappan, the Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist, clinched the gold medal with a championship record of 1.88m, adding to India's success at the event.

India's achievements continued earlier in the day when Ekta Bhyan secured the gold medal in the women's F51 club throw competition. Bhyan's season-best throw of 20.12m was enough to claim the top spot.

Kashish Lakra, another Indian athlete, won the silver medal in the same event with a throw of 14.56m, contributing to India's productive day at the World Para Athletics Championships.
