Conor McGregor shares a two-word reaction after his shocking omission from UFC White House fight card

Former two-division champion Conor McGregor has reacted after he was not included in the historic Ultimate Fighting Championship fight card expected to take place at the White House. UFC CEO Dana White revealed the stacked lineup on Saturday night, but McGregor’s long-rumoured fight with Michael Chandler was missing. The Irish star had previously been linked with a headline bout at the unique event, reportedly planned for June 14 on the front lawn of the White House.

Despite the surprise omission, McGregor showed support for the announced fights. He posted the fight poster on social media and wrote that “love it!” for the lineup on Instagram, and later he posted that it looked like a “great card” on X. The event will feature Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje, while Alex Pereira moves up to face Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight belt.

Conor McGregor still waiting for comeback fight

Even though he was not included on the White House card, Conor McGregor confirmed that he is still preparing for his return to the octagon. The former champion explained that he initially believed the event at the White House would mark his comeback and that a fight against Michael Chandler was strongly discussed.

Speaking on Smash Cast, McGregor said that from what he understood, the plan had been for him to fight at the White House. According to him, the idea had strong backing from the administration, and the matchup with Chandler seemed perfect. He explained that the storyline was already built because Chandler is known for his exciting fighting style, and their clash would have produced fireworks inside the cage.

McGregor added that the plan later appeared to change. He said he was informed that the promotion might instead place him on the card during International Fight Week. He said he had no issue with the idea and remained open to the matchup, even if Chandler was not ultimately part of the plan. McGregor admitted he felt slightly awkward about the situation because Chandler had waited a long time for the fight, and he believed it would have been an entertaining contest for fans.

The Irish star stressed that his main focus is simply returning to action. He explained that he does not want to be too selective with opponents because he is eager to compete again after a long period away from the octagon.

McGregor also confirmed that his comeback will take place in the welterweight division. He said he now plans to fight at 170 pounds because he has grown physically bigger compared to earlier in his career.
