Mike Trout, the legendary baseball player of the Los Angeles Angels is a household name in the country. However, when it comes to the player’s back support, his rock, there’s one person who has stood by him throughout the journey: Jessica Cox (Trout). What started off as a sweet high school rom-com turned out to be a love story that fans admire a lot.
But, who is Jessica Cox? How did the love birds meet? There are still some questions that lingers in the mind, the answers of which are here.
Jessica Cox met Mike Trout in Spanish class
It was in a Spanish class in the Millville Senior High School, New Jersey, which set the background for the future lovers. When Trout first saw Jessica sitting in the back of the classroom, he was hit with the “love at first sight” syndrome and was determined to have a conversation with her. Well, fate seemed to favor the player and there was an empty seat near his future bride.
Mike took the risk by acting out in front of the teacher in hopes of getting shifted to the backbench, which worked. He wasted no time in striking up a conversation and the couple quickly bonded over their shared love for outdoor and sports.
Trout even asked Jessica out for the senior prom in 2009, which she said yes to.
Remembering the past, Trout once said,
“She’s (Jessica) been there before baseball and along the whole journey. I was with her for 11 years before we got married.”Jessica Cox is a teacher
While Trout drove out for bigger things in the field of baseball, Jessica fueled her deep passion for teaching. After completing high school, she went to Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in elementary education.
Throughout her college days, Cox actively participated in field hockey and softball and led the teams to winning various titles. Besides, Cox was also a member of the National Honor Society, and had even attended the First-Team All-Commonwealth Conference back in 2011, before she completed graduation.
Post graduation, Cox became a middle school teacher, inspiring the lives of children in Cape May County, New Jersey.
Mike Trout proposed in an extravagant way
After dating for almost a decade, Mike Trout finally asked the question, and not in a simple way: he wrote it in the sky for the whole world to see. On June 28, 2016, Trout asked Jessica to marry him in the most romantic way; by hiring a pilot to write “
Will you marry me Jess?” in the sky.
Cox immediately said yes, and the couple never looked back. The couple got married in the following year on December 9, 2017, what can only be said as a dreamy winter wedding, where they tied the knot in a barn.
"
It felt so natural, like we were doing what we were meant to do. Walking down the aisle with my father and then being given away to my husband was incredibly emotional" Cox said while remembering the delightful day.
Jessica Cox is a philanthropist
Cox’s deep sense of giving back to society and standing by what’s right can be clearly seen in the way she actively volunteers for various societal causes.
Whether it’s raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by volunteering in the Fill the Boot event, or hosting the Gold Ball Mystery Bag fundraiser with the Angels’ players’ partners, Cox has always been upfront about the causes she supports.
Jessica Cox’s brother played minor league baseball
However, not everything was a bed of roses for Mike Trout and Jessica Cox. When Cox lost her brother Aaron Cox to a self-inflicted gunshot, back in 2018, it affected the entire family. Aaron Cox was playing as a minor league pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, the same team as of Trout, and was in his peak.
The sudden loss of the 24-year old had a deep impact on the couple’s life. Since then, Trout has made endless tributes to his late brother-in-law. From wearing a jersey with A. Cox inscribed, to customized cleats and wristbands, Trout’s continuous dedication shows how deep their bond was.
Jessica Cox and Mike Trout share two kids
Life came full circle when the couple welcomed their first son, Beckham Aaron Trout (honoring Jessica’s late brother), on July 30, 2020. The couple stated that Beckham is their “
greatest gift from above.”
Four years later, another little miracle entered their life when the couple welcomed Jordy Michael Trout to the world on June 30, 2024. Parenting has shaped the life of the couple and has brought them closer than ever.
To top it off, they also have two dog babies, Juno (miniature Spitz) and Josie (mini Australian Shepherd), who have their own Instagram handles where the boys also make special appearances.
Currently, Mike and Jessica live happily with their kids and dogs. Though Trout’s baseball fame has brought Jessica in the spotlight, the latter is seen to be embracing it with utmost elegance and grace while still being the rock for her husband.
