The Los Angeles Angels continued revamping their depth in terms of pitching by agreeing to a minor deal with the New York Yankees. On January 29, the Angels announced the acquisition of left-handed reliever Jayvien Sandridge in cash. In a related series of roster moves, the Angels designated right-hander Osvaldo Bido for assignment, as both teams officially accepted the transaction. It follows a day after Los Angeles took another Yankees pitcher, Kaleb Ort, on waivers, pointing to a hectic period between the two teams as the Angels seek to complete their 40-man roster before the 2026 MLB season.

LA Angels fill lefty depth as roster is formed

The trade news initially broke out on social media by a reporter, Joey Mistretta, who wrote: “Some MLB trade news: The Angels have acquired LHP Jayvien Sandridge from the Yankees for cash considerations, the team announced. RHP Osvaldo Bido was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.”
Sandridge, 26, debuted in the MLB in 2025 with the Yankees, but only played in one game. He spent most of the season moving through various levels of minor league pitching after being signed by the Yankees. In 38 minor-league appearances last year, the left-hander had an impressive 4.66 ERA, flashing but yet in search of consistency. The lefty is still a valuable asset in the league, and the Angels are hoping that Sandridge can move to the next stage of his development and become a useful bullpen arm in the 2026 MLB season.

Yankees ties, Bido’s exit, and playoff hopes

The trade marks the second pitching-related transaction between the Angels and Yankees in 24 hours, after Los Angeles claimed Ort off waivers on January 28. In the meantime, Bido's exit emphasizes the churn at the back end of the Angels roster. The right-hander, who had just turned 30, was claimed off waivers by the Miami Marlins just two days ago and has since been passed around by five organisations this offseason and was designated and reclaimed multiple times. In the case of Los Angeles, the whirlwind of deals is a representation of a larger agenda to cement depth in pitching, but with a look to a long-awaited resumption of October baseball. The mound will also be an issue, yet the club will also be banking on already proven stars, including Mike Trout, to lead any charge to the playoffs in 2026.
