Prince Harry made Canada laugh and frown at the same time this week. During Game 4 of the World Series, he was seen wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers hat instead of a Toronto Blue Jays one, and fans were not happy. In an interview with CTV News on Thursday, Harry said he is sorry to Canada and explained he was “under duress.”
He said the Dodgers owner invited him to sit in the team’s box, so he wore the hat out of respect. Harry laughed about the moment, calling it “hat-gate.” Later, at a dinner for the True Patriot Love Foundation in Toronto, he again apologized and promised to wear a Blue Jays cap “from now on.” The Dodgers went on to win Game 7, beating the Blue Jays to take the 2025 World Series title. But Harry made it clear, he’s now team Canada all the way.
Why Prince Harry wore the Dodgers hat and later said sorry to Canada
Prince Harry told CTV News he didn’t plan to cause drama. He said he just didn’t want to be rude to the Dodgers owner, who invited him to the team’s box at the stadium. “There wasn’t much choice,” he joked. Harry also said he grabbed the hat because he was “missing a lot of hair on top” and needed something to cover his head under the bright lights.
Fans online quickly noticed, and many Canadians teased him for cheering against their team. A few even called it “traitor behavior,” though most took it as a joke. The next night, during the True Patriot Love Foundation dinner, Prince Harry laughed about it again. He said, “I’m very sorry for wearing the Dodgers cap. I’ll wear this Blue Jays one from now on.”
He reminded Canadians that Toronto means a lot to him, because it’s where he first met his wife Meghan Markle, who lived there while filming Suits. He said, “Canada gave me my wife. It will always mean a great deal to me.”
During the rest of the series, Prince Harry said he cheered for the Blue Jays. Still, the Dodgers took the championship after a close 5-4 win in Game 7. Other stars at the games included Drake, Nelly Furtado, Jason Bateman, Alex Cooper, and Brad Paisley, but Harry and Meghan got the most attention, and a few mixed reactions.
Even with the teasing, Canadians seemed to forgive him after his funny and kind apology. And yes, he was later spotted wearing a bright Blue Jays cap, just like he promised.
