Miguel Cabrera, one of the greatest all-time designated hitters in the history of baseball, has not only led a legendary career on the diamond but also amassed wealth like none other. The Venezuelan slugger played for 21 seasons with the Detroit Tigers and Florida Marlins, topping his career with huge MLB contracts and multi-year extensions with the Detroit Tigers, completing 3000 smashing hits. For two-time MVP, Miguel Cabrera, the 2016 to 2026 decade was financially one of the best in compensation and solidifying legacy position. By the 2020s, his net worth was estimated to be between $145 million and $150 million, supported by MLB payments and personal investment.
Cabrera’s elite earnings via long-term contracts
In 2016, Cabrera, already in his mid-30s, was still signing one of the richest contracts in the history of the MLB since he signed an eight-year, $248 million extension with the Detroit Tigers, carrying him through 2025. According to Spotrac, Cabrera earned approximately $28 million in 2016 and 2017, respectively, increasing the sum to $30 million each in 2018 and 2019.
This eight-figure elite salary package put Cabrera at the top of the highest paid hitter in the MLB.
He also added milestones to his legendary career resume during these seasons, and this was a much better addition to his marketability and brand value, making Cabrera have earned an overall salary of approximately $393 million in MLB salary through the early 2020s.
Cabrera’s 3000 hit, veteran salary, and post-retirement net worth
As Cabrera reached the second decade of his playing career, his pay also remained substantial. According to Salary Sport data, Cabrera’s salary was approximately $30 million in 2021, and $32 million in 2022 and 2023. Miguel Cabrera retired in October 2023, making him a veteran star in the MLB, while his pay in 2024 reached only $8 million. Towards the conclusion of the 2023 season, which was largely seen as his final active year, Cabrera earned almost $393 million in MLB earnings alone.
While Cabrera’s official playing contract was set through 2025, reports noted his 2025 salary was structured as an option with potential club vesting, concluding the last seasons of his long-term extension.
