Tyson Fury admits one brutal loss could destroy Anthony Joshua fight after Andy Ruiz Jr update emerges

Tyson Fury’s expected return fight before facing Anthony Joshua later this year will not be against Andy Ruiz Jr.. That update came directly from Fury’s promoter Frank Warren, who confirmed that Ruiz is no longer being considered for the bout. Even so, Warren made it clear that Fury still wants a known opponent before stepping into the long-awaited showdown with Joshua.

The heavyweight division has been full of talk around Fury’s comeback plans ever since the fight with Joshua was officially signed for later this year. While Joshua is set to fight unbeaten heavyweight Kristian Prenga in July, Fury’s camp wants a stronger test to help him stay sharp. Speaking to iFL TV, Warren explained that Fury does not want to sit inactive for months and an announcement on the next fight could arrive very soon.

According to Warren, Ruiz will not be the man standing across the ring from Fury. He told iFL TV, “It won’t be Ruiz, it won’t be him. He wants a good type of opponent, like he had last time. A recognisable name in the opposite corner to tune up before facing AJ.”

Warren also added, “It looks like Tyson may have a fight as we don’t want him to be waiting around. We are hoping to announce it this week.”

That decision shows Fury’s team wants a serious challenge before the huge Joshua fight. Fury already defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this year and reportedly does not want an easy step backward in competition. Meanwhile, Joshua’s upcoming opponent Kristian Prenga is viewed by many boxing fans as a safer matchup.

Fury himself recently admitted there is always danger involved whenever he enters the ring. The former heavyweight champion said he understands one bad night could destroy plans for the Joshua event.

“It’s just about me versus me always,” Fury said.

“So, whoever the opponent is, if it’s Joe Blogs or if it’s Mike Tyson, it’s all important to me. It’s just the run out for me. Like, just to get sharper for the big one.”

Fury also added, “Listen, I might get knocked out my next fight in August. So then it’s all over it. So I got to take one fight at a time, and they’re all deadly serious fights.”

The update was first reported through Warren’s interview with iFL TV, while Fury’s latest comments came during recent media appearances discussing his comeback plans ahead of the Anthony Joshua clash.
