“The whole world knows the truth”: Khabib Nurmagomedov shuts down Dana White’s false narrative related to main reason behind his UFC retirement
Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has strongly denied claims that he retired from MMA because he earned huge amounts of money after defeating Conor McGregor. The Russian legend reacted after UFC CEO Dana White suggested that Nurmagomedov became financially secure through tours across Muslim countries and no longer needed to compete inside the Octagon.
Nurmagomedov, who retired in 2020 after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, finished his career with a perfect 29-0 professional record. At the time, he had emotionally explained that the death of his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, deeply affected him. He also revealed that his mother did not want him to continue fighting without his father by his side, which became the biggest reason behind his retirement decision.
Nurmagomedov quickly responded through his Instagram Stories and rejected the claims. The Dagestani star said the reports were completely false and insisted that money was never the reason he retired from the sport. He explained that nobody handed him the massive amounts being discussed online and added that the real reason behind his retirement had already been shared publicly several times before.
“Sometimes I read these headlines, and I am not a fan of giving my commentaries to every nonsense on the internet, but when Dana talks, the news spread fast,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram.
The former UFC champion also mentioned that he normally ignores rumors on the internet, but he felt the need to address the issue because White’s comments spread rapidly across social media and MMA news platforms. Nurmagomedov stated that once comments come from someone as influential as the UFC boss, many people start believing them as facts.
Since leaving active competition, Nurmagomedov has remained heavily involved in MMA as a coach and mentor. He has played a major role in the success of Islam Makhachev, helping him become a UFC champion. Even in retirement, “The Eagle” continues to be one of the most respected figures in combat sports.
