A firestorm has surrounded streamer Steven Bonnell II, aka Destiny, following his very harsh remarks on the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. And his comments during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored caused widespread protest, suspension from Twitch, and even calls of arrest from billionaire Elon Musk.

Destiny's Controversial Comments

On the show, Destiny blamed conservatives for the political violence in the U.S. He said basically,"I think that the only way this country moves forward into a better world is when Conservatives can finally realize that they need to turn the temperature down on their side.”Although he did not condone the killing, he refused to condemn it outright and suggested that political activists need to be aware of the consequences of their rhetoric.

The Twitch Ban and Subsequent Fallout

Later, Twitch banned Destiny from its platform for "Hateful Conduct," which in turn sparked debate across the political spectrum. While many condemned Destiny's views, others saw the Twitch ban as an infringement on free speech.

HasanAbi Pushes Back

Popular political streamer HasanAbi came to Destiny’s defense, launching a broadside against liberals seeking harsher punishment. Hasan said the whole thing was absurd for the liberals to cave and capitulate, emphasizing that the gist of Destiny’s comments concerned Trump-fuelled extremism and certainly not any endorsement of violence.
The incident brings to limelight the rising stakes between online free speech and platform moderation. Banned from streaming on Twitch and invited to legal avenues by Musk, what started as a controversial remark of one streamer has now been fast-tracked to the big boy debate on speech, politics, and the borders of acceptable commentary in this polarized landscape.
