Parents of motocross prodigy Aidan Zingg, 16, file wrongful death lawsuit alleging preventable crash

The family of motocross prodigy Aidan Zingg has filed a lawsuit against the event organizers, claiming negligence led to Aidan's death from injuries sustained during a motocross race. According to the filing, several factors, including not properly staffing or providing adequate safety oversight at the race, impact the manner in which Aidan's death occurred.

The Aidan Zingg family is seeking damages from the defendants named in the lawsuit, including 2XP LLC, Alterra Mountain Company, the American Motorcyclist Association, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and Revelyst Adventure Sports. They are also seeking to hold these organizations accountable for their actions so that similar incidents do not take place in the future.

As of January 2, the Zingg family alleges negligence and use of defective safety equipment regarding the Mammoth Motocross event, where Aidan Zingg sustained fatally injurious injuries.

Robert Zingg and Shari Zingg have asked Race Attorney Kevin Bininza to represent their family during this legal battle. Biniasan indicated that Robert and Shari hope this legal action will help improve both the safety and quality of protective gear for young racers.

Aidan Zingg's fatal accident during a mammoth motocross event

On June 28, 2025, during a mid-race accident at the Mammoth Motocross event in Mammoth Lakes, Aidan Zingg died. According to reports, Aidan Zingg went down in a corner of the track and was run over by multiple motorcycles before the officials called a halt to the race.

Aidan Zingg's family filed a lawsuit claiming the corner where Aidan Zingg fell did not have a caution flagger present to notify other riders of the accident and respond quickly enough to prevent further injury. The complaint goes on to say that if there had been adequate staffing at the corner, Aidan Zingg would have been alerted to the accident within seconds, and this would have allowed him to avoid being run over.

According to court documents, Aidan Zingg was unconscious on the racetrack for a minimum of several minutes, while the race continued without interruption. The complaint further states that the evidence of Aiden Zingg's protective gear, including his chest protector, demonstrated that he was struck by another motorcycle during the accident.

Aidan Zingg died later in the day after being transported to Mammoth Hospital for heart failure. His death was ruled to be caused by cardiac tamponade due to an accumulation of fluid around his heart, which blocked its pumping capacity.

In response to this tragedy, Aidan's sister, Alexandria Zingg, posted an emotional tribute stating that she is heartbroken and the family is suffering tremendously. Robert and Shari Zingg are continuing with their lawsuit against the parties responsible for the accident to ensure that no other families have to endure this kind of loss and pain.

As this lawsuit continues, so does the increased attention on the safety of young motocross riders. Reports show that since 2000, 150 + children have been killed in motocross accidents. Due to these reports, there remains ongoing concern regarding the dangers associated with the sport.
