Olympic snowboarder Nick Baumgartner still not ready to walk away from Winter Olympics even after fifth appearance at 44
Olympic snowboarder Nick Baumgartner has made it clear that he is not finished with the Winter Games! The veteran athlete recently shared that he still feels competitive and motivated to continue participating. After competing at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Baumgartner said he plans to remain in the sport. Notably, this was his fifth Olympic appearance. He says as long as he is enjoying it and performing at a high level, he will play.
At an age when many athletes consider retirement, Baumgartner instead feels motivated to snowboard. He believes his longevity shows the hard work required to stay at the top. Even after years of competition, he continues to find purpose both on and off the snow. For him, the Olympics are not just about medals. He believes they are also about inspiring others and representing his country.
Speaking about his Olympic future on TV6, Nick Baumgartner said he has no intention of stepping away anytime soon. He explained that he plans to stay involved in the sport for many more years. Reflecting on his career, he shared that he takes pride in competing at 44. He discussed that it proves how much dedication and effort it takes to remain at the Olympic level.
During his time in Milan, he also observed the younger athletes closely. He said he was impressed by how they perform with such confidence at a young age. According to him, their ability to recover from setbacks and still succeed shows maturity beyond their years.
Baumgartner added that one of his favorite parts of every Olympic journey is returning home to the United States. For him, coming back to familiar faces and supportive communities means more than anything else. He emphasized that the people are what make the experience special.
Looking ahead, Baumgartner said he will continue competing as long as he remains competitive and enjoys the sport. He believes those two things go hand in hand. The longer he stays active, the more people he can inspire through his platform.
Soon, he will travel back to Italy to support athletes at the Winter Paralympics, where he hopes to use his growing influence to cheer them on and help raise awareness for their achievements.
