Michael Phelps expresses gratitude to NBA legend LeBron James for sharing special moment with his sons

Michael Phelps recently expressed his gratitude to LeBron James for making a kind gesture towards his sons following an NBA game on December 15. The former Olympic swimmer attended the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns clash with his children. Phelps, one of the most celebrated athletes in sports history, was clearly touched by the interaction that took place after the final buzzer.

Phelps was joined by his sons Boomer, Beckett, and Maverick at the arena. After the game, LeBron James took out time to meet them. The Lakers star was seen shaking hands with Beckett, while Boomer and Maverick watched closely. Phelps later shared the moment on social media and publicly thanked James, showing appreciation for the respect shown to his family.

Michael Phelps shared a photo on his Instagram story after the Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Phoenix Suns. The image showed LeBron James greeting his sons near the court. The swimmer thanked James with a warm message.

He wrote, “Thx for stopping for my lil homies! @kingjames.”

This was not the first time Phelps publicly praised LeBron James. During the 2024 Paris Olympics, James was named Team USA’s male flag bearer. After James reacted to the honor on social media, Phelps replied with a simple message, “Congrats, LeBron James.”

Back in 2017, Phelps attended a Phoenix Suns vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game. Afterwards, he spoke to ESPN about watching James play live. He also recalled a moment when James appeared to point at him after a dunk.

Calling it amusing, Phelps said (as quoted by SwimSwam), “It’s just funny. I was just talking to people who were sitting around us, and they were like, ‘Did he just point at you or is he pointing at me?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t really know.’ And then he drills a 3. It was awesome.”

Phelps often shares family moments online. He has four sons with his wife, Nicole Phelps. The couple first met in 2000 and dated on and off for several years. They got engaged in 2015 and married in June 2016. Their first son, Boomer Phelps, was born in 2016, just one month before their wedding. They later welcomed Beckett, Maverick, and Nico. Their youngest son, Nico, was born in January 2024.
