Spain’s young star Lamine Yamal spoke openly after a troubling moment during a friendly match against Egypt. The game ended 0-0 on Tuesday night, but what happened in the stands became the real story. Some fans were heard chanting phrases linked to religion, which many saw as disrespectful and offensive.
The situation quickly got serious inside the stadium. Officials displayed an anti-discrimination message on the big screen, reminding fans that racism and hate are crimes. Still, the noise from parts of the crowd did not stop. A day later, Yamal decided to speak up. His message was direct, emotional, and impossible to ignore.
Lamine Yamal speaks strongly as Luis de la Fuente and Egypt FA react to incident
Taking to Instagram, Lamine Yamal wrote clearly, “I am a***. Yesterday at the stadium the chant ‘the one who doesn’t jump is a *** was heard.” He made it clear that even if it was not aimed directly at him, it still hurt. He added, “I know I was playing for the rival team and it wasn’t something personal against me, but as a *** person it doesn’t stop being disrespectful and something intolerable.”
He did not stop there. Yamal called out those involved, saying, “I understand not all fans are like this, but to those who sing these things, using a religion as a mockery on the field makes you ignorant and racist people.”
He also reminded everyone what football should be about: “Football is to be enjoyed and encouraged, not to disrespect people for who they are or what they believe in.”
Spain’s head coach Luis de la Fuente also shared his thoughts after the match. He said, “They are not representative of football. They take advantage of football, as they do in other areas of life. We need to isolate these people from society.” He added firmly, “I feel total and absolute repulsion towards any xenophobic or racist attitudes. They are intolerable.”
The Egyptian Football Association also released a statement. It said, “We firmly reject and condemn such behavior, including the lack of respect shown toward the national anthem. These actions are entirely unacceptable in football stadiums and represent a negative phenomenon that must be collectively addressed and eradicated.”
Spain’s football federation confirmed its stance as well, saying it stands against racism and condemns any such acts inside stadiums. FIFA is now waiting for official reports before deciding the next step.
This incident once again highlights a growing concern in Spanish football, where similar issues have been raised in recent years.
